Paragraph three

Going from books, tv shows can also be political. While shows like Saturday Night Live are obviously political, even shows that are meant to entertain can be political. One show that comes to mind is “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood,” arguably one of the most beloved and recognizable shows in existence. The show was more than a time waster for children, it was a show that had political commentary and life lessons. The documentary of Won’t You Be My Neighbor? goes into more depth and in better detail, but Mr. Rogers wanted to create a show that wanted to treat children with intelligence and deal with the issues of society to create a better world. It dealt with themes of race and equality during a time in which racism was prevalent.  It handled the feelings of unimportance many children faced with seriousness and addressed how simply telling a person their value doesn’t negate the feeling of unimportance instantaneously. Most people don’t recognize how political “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” until the stop and see it staring them in the face.
