Paragraph 4&5

Representation of stereotypes in media also is political. Granted, stereotypes are generally negative, but stereotypes are the creations of society, they are the views of society regarding groups of people. The representation of stereotypes isn’t always negative though, Gaijin Goomba addressed this a bit. They are just a short hand for characterization. A favorite anime of mine, Hetalia uses stereotypes to form the personalities of the personified countries and uses that to tell an extremely accurate tale of history. Every event that happened in the anime was a real historical event, all while done as in the most comical way possible.
While the stereotypes in the original punch-out game were racist, in their rebooted form for the Wii, the characters used their original stereotypes more satire for how little most people know about the country each fighter represent beyond their stereotype. The game was designed to be just a boxing game, but the reboot managed to keep the original cast and their characterization and have them be presented in good taste. Nintendo took what was arguably the worst aspect of the game and, while not nailing it, made a commentary about stereotypes in their attempt to improve the cast. Even if Super Macho Man borders the bad stereotype territory (Game Exchange).
